Editorial standards
The Langford Institute for Organizational Transformation and Change Management publishes journalism, original research and annual honors on how organizations change: the decisions behind major transformations, the people who lead them, and the evidence on what works. These are the rules we hold ourselves to.
Every number traced to its source
Every number is traced to its original source and checked by a second person. We state who produced it, who paid for it, the sample, the date and the method. We do not repeat widely cited figures that lack sound evidence; when we discuss them, we explain where they came from.
Primary documents first
We name sources wherever possible and link to filings, regulatory notices and studies. Company statements are reported as claims until confirmed, and a press release or vendor-funded survey is never the sole basis for a story.
Anonymous sources, sparingly
We grant anonymity only when the information is important, cannot be obtained on the record, and the source faces real risk. We tell readers why, and never grant it for opinions, personal attacks or company spokespeople.
Right of reply
People and organizations facing significant criticism are told the specific points before publication and given time to respond. We do not offer copy approval or quote approval.
Corrected openly, never silently
A note at the end of the article says what was wrong and when it was fixed. Every correction is logged on a public page, and requests receive a response within two business days.
Clearly labeled, kept apart
Sponsored material is labeled with the sponsor's name, uses a visibly different design, and is never written or edited by the newsroom. Sponsors cannot buy coverage, survey questions or honors.
AI assistance, human judgment
Some of our articles are written with AI assistance. Our editors decide what we cover, check every figure against its original source and approve every article before publication. AI never generates or alters quotes. Some illustrations are made with AI; they show a theme, never real people or real events.
Peer review and pre-registration
Every research publication is reviewed by at least two external experts. Hypotheses for the annual study are pre-registered, and methods, questionnaires and limitations are published with the findings.
Subscriber data stays with us
Newsletter and nomination data are never sold or shared, including with sponsors. Nomination evidence is used only for judging and deleted 24 months after the decision.
